Romantic Getaways in Helen, GA You’ll Fall in Love With

Planning a romantic getaway in Northern Georgia? Well congratulations for getting off to a good start by looking at the cute Bavarian town of Helen, GA.

But your job is only half done: anyone in a relationship knows that a weekend away can be completely ruined by terrible accommodation.

Fortunately, you’ve stumbled onto the right blog because at Couple Travel the World we’re super picky about accommodation.

Call us old fashioned but every half-decent hotel must have crisp white sheets, working wifi and free parking. We’ve scoured the reviews because we know that one review about hair on the towels is one too many for us.

All the romantic places to stay in Helen we’ve picked out satisfy our strict standards; but they all have something special like fireplaces, love-shaped hot tubs, cozy couches for snuggling.

One tip: don’t leave it until last minute. Accommodation options in Helen are limited and the best places in Helen book out fast.

So without further ado, here are the most romantic cabins, hotels, B&Bs, for the perfect getaway in Helen, GA

5 Most Romantic Hotels in Helen, GA

We’ve filtered out the ugly and share only the best romantic Helen hotels and cabins (some with a private jacuzzi)

We’ve rounded up the most romantic hotels with cozy features ranging from fireplaces, love-shaped hot tubs, cozy couches for snuggling, colorful postcard-worthy half-timber buildings right out of Bavaria, and of course – a couple of castles.

Camelot’s Castle: Valhalla Resort Hotel

Can it get more romantic than staying in a castle complete with turrets? It may not be a real castle but you will feel like royalty waking up each morning to sweeping views from your balcony of the North Georgian countryside including the famous Blue Ridge Mountains.

One of the most romantic mountain getaways in the USA for sure!

We love that every room has a lounge room, big couch and warm fireplace for those chilly mountain nights. Rooms also feature dual his and her vanities, plush pillows and clean white linen to rest your head after a day exploring Alpine Helen.

If you prefer to stay a bit more grounded, you can also stay in a cozy bungalow complete with your own fireplace, fluffy bath robes and lots of privacy.

There is free parking but if you don’t feel like driving, you can take advantage of the free shuttle to and from Helen or to local wineries. So make the most of it and leave the car in the car park and have an extra stein of German lager or glass of Georgian Pinot Noir.

If you feel like staying in, there is an on-site restaurant for “farm to fork” dishes using local ingredients, paired with local wines or you can grab a bite to eat with rooftop views from the Valhalla Sky bar – truly heaven!

While you’re there, pamper yourself with a couples massage in the day spa or relax by the pool in the warmer months.

Postcard Perfect Alpine Village Inn

You don’t need to travel all the way to Romantic Road in Germany see gorgeous half-timber houses. In fact, you can stay in postcard perfect red and white trimmed cottages in Helen.

Staying here during winter with a little snowfall and you’ll really feel like you’re up in the Swiss Alps. In summer the chalets wouldn’t look out of place deep in southwest Germany’s Black Forest. Except instead of the Rhine river you’ll be staying minutes from the Chattahoochee river where you can take advantage of all manner of fun activities including our favorite – river tubing.

Nearby you’ll also find plenty of popular terraces by the ‘Hooch to enjoy a beer in the sunshine. We picked out some of the best in our Helen, GA guide including the Troll Tavern and popular Paul’s Margarita Deck which has live music every weekend.

The Alpine Village Inn is located 5 minutes walk from the main strip of shops in Helen and just 2 minutes walk from the hall where Oktoberfest is held in year.

Stay in a Dutch Windmill at Heidi Motel

Stay in one of Helen’s oldest landmarks: the Dutch Windmill in Heidi Motel.

If you really want to make a statement, check out the King Suite with pink heart-shaped Spa Bath. Book this room to ensure you get to actually stay in the windmill itself and keep yourself extra warm with the fireplace in the living room.

For a little more elevation, stay on the second floor of the windmill in the Queen Suite with mountain view.

The Motel has recently updated some of its rooms and the new ones look pretty lush indeed: check out the Deluxe rooms which feature a full-size kitchen. Of course you may not plan to whip up a 5 course meal with so many good restaurants around but it is handy to have access so you can crack open a bottle of local Sangiovese – Syrah or to prepare a hearty cheese and meat platter.

You can source plenty of country-fresh produce, pickles and spreads, and alcohol from local institution Betty’s Country Store across the road. For breakfast or afternoon tea you’re less than 100 yards from Hofer’s Bakery & Cafe: a German bakery serving all sorts of goodies from heavenly Black Forest Cake to fresh chocolate chunk cookies to good olde’ fashion donuts.

Best Helen Hotel with Jacuzzi: Hampton Inn Helen

In Helen you’ll find several hotels with a private spa or jacuzzi but some of them are pretty rundown and scary.

This hotel is not like those. The exterior fits the Bavarian-theme of the town and the rooms are in good condition.

Make sure to book a King Room or Suite with a private Spa Bath in-room.

You’ll really feel like royalty when you walk outside to see white horses and carriages ready to take you into town.

For $20 you can take a romantic carriage ride around town and they’ll pick you up too.

Stay in a Winery: Dahlonega Resort & Vineyard

I love two things in life: traveling and wine. So staying in a vineyard is always an appealing prospect for me.

You’ve got wine – which we’ve established that I love – but you also get the opportunity to revel in how cultured you are by learning about the particularities of growing wine in Northern Georgia.

No couples getaways is complete without sampling a bit of local wine along the Wine Highway.

Sometimes it’s better to cut straight to the chase and stay at the winery instead.

Dahlonega is nestled in the foothills of Georgia’s Blue Ridge Mountains and there’s plenty to keep you occupied.

Get your Yoga on and then relax with a healing massage, blissful body treatment or renewing facial.

Or simply grab a glass from the cellar then rock on the porch and bask in the mountain views.

Romantic Place with Spa: Alpine Retreat

Want an incredible place to stay with a hot tub and even extra rooms to make it a party with friends?

The property features 4 separate bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen with a dishwasher and a microwave, and 7 bathrooms.

Yes 7 bathrooms! Perfect for avoiding any fights over who spent too long getting ready in the shower!

Personally, we singled out this place because it looks like a super place to visit with friends, while also ensuring everyone has their own privacy.

Anne Ruby Falls is nearby. We absolutely loved this hike which is worth doing when you’re finished with all the German stuff in town.

Helen Festhalle (where Oktoberfest is held) is 2.7 miles from the property.

This place is one of a kind, so get in quick because it’s going to book up when festivities come to town.

3 Helen GA Hotels with a Jacuzzi

If you’ve read our guide to Helen, you’ll know the town is tiny. Like barely 500 permanent residents tiny.

So there is a risk your favorite hotel could be booked out when you’re planning to visit.

Here are the best of the rest: quality hotels with fair prices and a little something special in the form of an in-room jacuzzi to wallow in with your significant other. How romantic.

  1. Country Inn Edelweiss Strasse ($$)
  2. Red Roof – look at the King Room with Jacuzzi ($)
  3. Hofbrau Riverfront hotel – look at the King Suite with Spa Bath

If you don’t care for a cabin, our pick of the remaining hotels in town is the Country Inn Edelweiss Strasse for a very comfortable yet affordable accommodation choice for couples (as little as $75).
