Why you need to visit Wat Xieng Thong Temple

When visiting Luang Prabang, attractions like Kuang Si Falls & the night market are popular things to do but have you considered Wat Xieng Thong temple?

We visited this beautiful temple on our last morning in Luang Prabang and we are really glad we did.

Why visit Wat Xiengthong

Even if you have been in South East Asia for some time (and are totally sick of temples) definitely make time to visit Wat Xieng temple while in Luang Prabang.

Luang Prabang’s Most Famous Temple

Wat Xieng temple is arguably the most famous temple in Luang Prabang so if you are going to visit just one temple – this should be it!

Located on the northern tip of Luang Prabang, it is a Buddhist temple which is one of the most important Lao monasteries.

Despite being a smaller temple, it was even more beautiful than we expected – quaint and decadent with intricate gold & green trimmings & a sweeping two-tiered roof.

Inside the grounds are over 20 structures (albeit small) to enjoy including a sim, shrines, pavilions and residences.

There is also a lot of greenery including gardens, flowers and ornamental shrubs in the vicinity.

Great for Photos

If you are like us, you like finding Instagram-worthy places within a city.

Wat Xieng Thong has 2 two temples, both of which are very Insta-worthy.

Below is a moment we managed to capture at Wat Xieng Thong temple.

On our final morning in Luang Prabang we made a quick visit to Wat Xieng Thong temple before taking our flight. . . While the temple is not as big as others we have seen, it was even more beautiful than we expected – quaint and decadent with intricate gold & green trimmings & a sweeping two-tiered roof. . . Have you ever been surprised by a smaller attraction before and if so which one? . . . . . #luangprabang #visitlaos #visitluangprabang #mekongmoments #visitlaosyear2018 #laos #watxiengthong #travelcouple #coupletraveltheworld #couplelovetravel #thebestescapes #couplegoals #travelguide #southeastasia #southeastasiatrip #everydayasia #travelblogger #seasia #everydayasia #laos???????? #vangvieng #vientiane #travelmoreworryless #temples #travelmoreoften #couplelove

You should allocate about 1 hour to fully enjoy this temple.

To be respectful, it is necessary to wear a long dress or skirt for women to gain entry to the temple.

Looking for something to do after Wat Xieng temple? Why not watch the sunset at Mount Phousi.

The trip to Luang Prabang was supported by Mekong Moments however, as always, all opinions are our own.
